Hey guys! It’s time to wrap up the year 2018 and I hope to conclude it on a positive note.

I thought to share a few quick tips that I have personally discovered extremely valuable as an artist growing their online presence. This year in particular, I have learnt much about expanding to different social media pages. Hopefully these wee tips will help also other artists striving to grow their online presence in 2019!

My tips for 2019:

INTERACT

Do not only rely on posting your art and leaving it at that. Interact with the people who comment on your art - do not take them for granted! They decided to give you a moment of their time. Comment on other people’s art too, they will appreciate it just as you do!

GIVE-AND-TAKE

Do not treat other artists as competition, rivalry. You’ll be much better off being kind and showing appreciation towards your fellow artists, no matter their level of skill. Offer constructive feedback and tips if you can and learn from others. Strive to be a supportive, well-meaning member of the art community.

USE MULTIPLE PLATFORMS

Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, DeviantArt etc. Some of your pieces might barely get noticed on one media, but get a lot of attention on another. For instance, I was personally overwhelmed by how popular my orc OC Manata got on Tumblr compared to, say, DeviantArt! And I had been on DeviantArt for years longer than on Tumblr!

ABOUT FEEDBACK

You might receive very different type of comments on your art in different places, and some might find this a little daunting. It’s difficult to give a definite answer as to how you should react to all of it.

Remember though, that often people just wish to help you improve and not bring you down. Even if you disagree with some constructive feedback that you might get, try find the positives of it: the other person took a moment of their life to try help you.

Avoid getting too worked up by what might seem like snarky comments on your art from people you don’t know; jumping into a heated argument usually isn’t worth the trouble. Some people are just entertained by riling others up.

SHOW PASSION FOR WHAT YOU DO

Whether it’s your OC, a specific art style or just trying to get better, show that you are enthusiastic about it! If your common attitude towards your work is ‘meh’, it might be difficult for others to get excited either.

CHASE IMPROVEMENT AND EXPLORE

This might be the toughest part; dedicating enough time to learning and improving. But it is fascinating to follow someone’s learning curve and how they go about getting better at their craft, is it not? I’m confident most of us know at least some artist who has deeply impressed us with the leaps they’ve made over time!

Try venture out of your comfort zone and explore now and then: people might find it refreshing to see something completely new from you! Be it trying out a different art style or drawing method that inspires you, or themes and concepts that give variety to your content!

Happy New Year everyone!

I'll use it as a stash also for things (sketches etc) that I don't upload to my deviantArt gallery

Have a good one guys!
